Bipolar and BiCMOS solutions are attractive because of the inherent capability of bipolar transistors to provide high gm at low current, and because of the well-developed family of circuit techniques for RF design using bipolar technology[lS]. The interest in utilizing CMOS for high-integration transceivers, stems from the potentially lower cost of a CMOS implementation It appears likely that at least for the lower performance applications it will be possible to overcome the poorer characteristics of CMOS for RF by utilizing alternative receiver architectures by using narrowband tuned circuits (taking advantage of the high fmax of the NMOS device), and by using 36 more adaptation in the receiver.
